heartstickerIn poker, a "last longer" is a side bet between two or more people that is won by the person who lasts the longest in a tournament.

For example:
Lisa, Martha, Tammy & Barb all put $10 into a side bet. Now there is $40 in a side prize pool available to win even if none of them make it to cash in the tournament. Tammy winds up lasting longer than the rest of her friends so she now wins the $40 in the pool.

WPA Advocates may run "WPA Longer Longers at various tournaments around the world.  Usually stickers are issued for participants to wear so others in the Last Longer can easily view who remains and is eliglible to win the cash.

Last longer bets are very popular in "live" tournaments and WPA continues to strive to bring players additional ways to have fun!

Liz Huey

LizIt was a happy moment in March of this year when Liz Huey’s name was drawn for a seat into the ladies’ event of the WSOP this summer. Unfortunately, Liz’s poker career did not stem from happy circumstances such as these. While an illness kept her bedridden for two years, she used online poker as a way to “keep [her] mind sharp.” It worked out well in the end as she eventually began playing live poker and even took her first plane ride to the 2009 Poker Queen Grand Championship.

Tonya Baltazar

tonyapoyspotlightTonya Baltazar took the title of LIPS 2019 Nevada State Ladies Champion at Green Valley Ranch in March. With seven players left, the final table agreed to an ICM chop and then played it out for the title and trophy. Congratulations, Tonya!

Living in Las Vegas, Nevada, Green Valley Ranch is only a 40 minute drive. Tonya has lived in Vegas her whole life. She met her husband when he was in the Air Force playing poker. He taught her to play in 2005. She played online and started to read books. Her first live tournament was at The Orleans LIPS Ladies event where she got 3rd out of a field of 166 women and was hooked!
